September 10: As part of the ongoing 10-day district-wide awareness campaign, the District Hub for Empowerment and Women, Pakyong District, successfully conducted a comprehensive awareness session today at Machong Senior Secondary School, focusing on Health and Nutrition, with special emphasis on Anaemia and Cancer prevention, alongside sensitization on the POCSO Act.The session commenced with an insightful and engaging talk by Dr Bidur Rai, Medical Officer from Machong Primary Health Centre, who emphasized the critical role of early detection in combating adolescent health issues, particularly anaemia and cancer. He explained how symptoms such as persistent fatigue, pallor, and irregular dietary habits often go unnoticed in young individuals, leading to delayed diagnosis and complications.Dr Rai highlighted the importance of balanced nutrition, advocating for the inclusion of iron-rich foods, seasonal fruits, and locally available vegetables in daily meals. He also addressed common misconceptions around diet and health, encouraging students to adopt simple, sustainable eating habits that support long-term well-being.In addition, he spoke about preventive health practices, such as regular health check-ups, maintaining hygiene, and being aware of bodily changes. His talk was tailored to the adolescent audience, using relatable examples and interactive questions to ensure clarity and engagement. The session not only informed but also empowered students to take charge of their health, reinforcing the message that awareness and timely action can save lives.The program was moderated by Ms Tshering Ongmu Lepcha DEO, ensuring active engagement and clarity throughout the session.Mr Alson Rai, Gender Specialist, provided a detailed overview of the support services available under Mission Shakti, highlighting the role of One Stop Centre (OSC) and the District Hub in addressing gender-based issues and facilitating access to welfare schemes.Ms Yangkit Doma Lepcha, Financial Literacy Specialist, concluded the session with a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the enthusiastic participation of students, teachers, and staff, and reiterating the Hub’s commitment to bridging policy and grassroots action.The event was graced by the presence of the School Incharge, faculty members, and students, and was conducted under the guidance of District Mission Coordinator Mr Rohan Rai. Staff from the Women and Child Development Department also actively participated, reinforcing inter-departmental collaboration.
