September 12, 2025 : A massive landslide struck Upper Rimbi in Yangthang Constituency, West Sikkim, around midnight, leaving four people dead and one critically injured. Superintendent of Police Geyzing, Tshering Sherpa, informed that three victims died instantly when the landslide hit the settlement. In a challenging rescue operation, police personnel, assisted by local villagers and SSB forces, evacuated two injured women by building a makeshift log bridge over the swollen Hume river.
