In a remarkable breakthrough, the Gyalshing District Police have successfully solved a major theft case involving the theft of gold ornaments and cash worth approximately ₹16,98,500/- (Rupees Sixteen Lakh Ninety Eight Thousand Five Hundred).
The case was registered at Gyalshing Police Station on 29.10.2025 following a written complaint from Shri Ram Hang Limboo, a resident of Sardung and presently serving as RTO, Motor Vehicle Division, Gyalshing.
Acting on the complaint, a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 was registered and taken up for investigation.
During the course of investigation, police arrested Zigmee Sonam Bhutia of Pelling on 01.11.2025 and recovered a substantial portion of the stolen property from his possession. Based on his disclosure, and through sustained intelligence and technical surveillance, a special team led by PI Roshan Gurung, SHO Gyalshing Police Station (Investigating Officer of the case), proceeded to Siliguri. With the assistance of Pradhan Nagar Police, the team apprehended the main accused, Rakesh Rai alias “Spider Man”, from Methibari, Siliguri who was absconding after commission of crime.
The accused Rakesh Rai @ Spider Man is a notorious and habitual offender, active during the 1990s, with a long criminal record. He has previously been convicted and sentenced by the Hon’ble Courts of Sikkim and Siliguri in several heinous offences.
The arrest of this notorious criminal marks a major success for the Gyalshing District Police and underscores their relentless commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
