The Sub-Division Level 78th Independence Day Celebration was marked by the distinguished presence of Mr LB Das, MLA West Pendam cum Advisor to the LR&DM, IT, and IPR Department, Government of Sikkim, who attended the event as the Chief Guest, accompanied by his spouse, Mrs Sangeeta Das.

In addition to the esteemed Chief Guest, the event also saw the participation of Zilla Panchayat of Central Pendam, Panchayat President, and Members of Central Pendam GPU; SE Power Department Shri Rajendra Gupta; SDM Rangpo Mr Thendup Lepcha; SDPO Rangpo Mr Mahendra Subba; SHO Rangpo Mr Neeraj Khatiwara; MEO Rangpo Mr Suren Tamang and Former Housing Board Chairman Mr Karma Tashi Bhutia. Furthermore, officials from various line departments also graced the event, along with the principals and school heads of all institutes within West Pendam Constituency.

The celebration started with SDM Rangpo, Mr Thendup Lepcha, reading out the message of the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim. This was followed by MLA Mr LB Das, who presented the message of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, highlighting the state’s progress and the unwavering dedication of its people towards achieving new milestones and fostering growth and development.

As the day unfolded, various institutions participated in a parade, further enlivened by traditional cultural performances and patriotic dances.

One of the highlights of the day was the final match of the 78th Independence Day Open Men’s Knockout Football Tournament 2024, where Majhitar Sporting Club and Black Spider Gadi faced off. The intense battle culminated in Majhitar Sporting Club emerging victorious with a 3-1 goal, clinching the championship title and a prize of ₹3 lakhs.

While the runner-up, Black Spider Gadi, was awarded ₹2 lakhs for their commendable performance on the field.

Noteworthy was the stellar performance of Mr Deepesh Alley (11) of Majhitar Sporting Club, who was named the Man of the Match.
