Pakyong District Hosts Inter-Departmental Cricket Tournament 2024

The District Administration Centre of Pakyong, in collaboration with the Women & Child Development Department (W&CDD) and the Social Welfare Department (SWD), successfully hosted the Inter-Departmental Cricket Tournament 2024 at St Xavier’s School Ground.
The tournament commenced on December 7, featuring participation from twenty teams representing various departments.
This event was organised under the auspices of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative of the W&CDD and the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan campaign led by the SWD.
Dignitaries in attendance included Ms Laden Lamu Bhutia, Zilla Adhyaksha; Ms Prabha Pradhan, Zilla Upadhyaksha of Pakyong District; Mr Rohan Agawane, DC Pakyong; Mr Thendup Lepcha, SDM (HQ); and heads of offices and officials from various departments within Pakyong District.
The final match, held today, pitted DC XI against the Forest Department, with the Forest Department securing victory. Notably, Bibek Gurung of the Forest Department was honored as both the Man of the Tournament and Man of the Match for his exemplary performance throughout the series.
Additionally, a Women’s Exhibition Match further enhanced the day’s festivities, showcasing the talents of the girls from Amba Cricket Academy and Yuva Club Gangtok.
The programme also featured cultural presentations, including a group dance performed by W&CDD and a skit by SWD, which highlighted the essence of community participation.
