State-Level DRR Quiz 2025 Held Successfully at Rhenock Government College

Rhenock 11 September 2025 — The Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Quiz 2025, a state-level inter-college competition, was successfully organized to commemorate State DRR Day under the theme “Empowering Communities, Safeguarding Sikkim.” The event was hosted by the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department, Government of Sikkim.

The programme was graced by the Chief Guest, Smt. Prabha Pradhan Chettri, Zilla Upadhakshya of Pakyong District, along with Guest of Honour Shri G.L. Meena, ADC Headquarters. Special guests included Shri D.B. Chettri, OSD to Hon’ble MLA Rhenock Constituency; Shri Santosh Kumar Pradhan, OSD, Directorate of Sikkim Lotteries; Shri Bum Tshering Yonzon, OSD, Department of Information & Technology; Smt. Babita Gadaily, Zilla Panchayat Member; Shri Suren Pradhan, SDM Rongli; Shri TR Chettri District Project Officer Pakyong,Shri S.K. Dhungana, BDO Rhenock; Shri Y.P. Mishra, Principal RSSS; and Shri Dilli Prasad Adhikari alongwith other Distinguish Dignitaries as well as Large number of college students were present the event

A total of 13 colleges from across Sikkim participated in the quiz competition:

Sikkim Government College, Rhenock

Sikkim Government College, Mangshila

Medhavi Skills University

Government Pharmacy College, Sajong

Sikkim University

Sikkim Government Law College, Burtuk

Sikkim Government College of Nursing, Sochakgang, Sichey

Sikkim Manipal University

Harkamaya College of Education

Himalayan Pharmacy Institute, Majitar

Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, Tadong

ICFAI University

Out of these, six colleges advanced to the semi-final round, and the top three teams secured their place in the grand finale were Harkamaya College of Education, Sikkim Govt. College Rhenock and Sikkim Manipal University

The event also highlighted key Points of Safety (POS) such as Earthquake, Flood, Fire, Landslide, Avalanche, Lightning, and CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear Hazards). Participants were reminded of essential emergency numbers: ERSS 112, Fire 101/03592-202001, and Ambulance 102/108.

The competition not only tested knowledge but also raised awareness on disaster preparedness, aiming to empower youth as torchbearers of resilience and community safety.
