The Sikkim Cricket Association is thrilled to announce the laying of foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Indoor Cricket Facility at Mining as part of a larger initiative by the Board of Control for Cricket in India to enhance cricket infrastructure in the North East.

BCCI President Mr. Roger Binny and Honorary Secretary Mr. Jay Shah virtually laid the foundation stone for six indoor facilities in North East – one each in Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland – from Shillong, Meghalaya on 19th May 2024.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was graced by Mr. Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya; Mr. VVS Laxuman, Head of Cricket at National Cricket Academy, and Executives of NE cricket associations.
From Sikkim Cricket Association, President Mr. Tika Subba and Honorary Secretary Mr. Rinzing Namgyal Bhutia attended the ceremony.
The Indoor Cricket Facility, which is coming up adjacent to the Sikkim Cricket Ground, at Mining, will include 4-5 cricket practice pitches, an indoor swimming pool, state-of-the-art gymnasium, office area for administration, separate locker rooms for men and women cricketers and cafeteria among others.
The total built up area is around 1,500 square metres.
Mr. Tika Subba: “This is a major step forward for cricket in Sikkim and will significantly benefit our players, especially during the monsoon season when outdoor training is challenging. The indoor training facility will provide our cricketers with world-class amenities and year-round training opportunities.”
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the BCCI and Mr. Jay Shah for improving cricket infrastructure in the North East. The future of cricket in Sikkim looks brighter than ever.”
The facility will greatly enhance the training environment for aspiring cricketers in Sikkim, allowing them to develop their skills without needing to travel outside the state. This initiative aligns with BCCI’s vision to support and nurture cricket talent across all regions of India.
The Sikkim Cricket Association eagerly anticipates the completion of the project and is excited about the opportunities it will bring for our cricketers. We are confident that this facility will be a cornerstone in the development of cricket in Sikkim.
