As per information received from the DSR of Sikkim Police, a disturbing incident of assault and harassment towards a 63-year-old senior citizen has come to light in Namchi. The victim, Mrs. B***** S*****, a vegetable vendor, was allegedly assaulted on 12th December 2024 by a 35-year-old fish vendor in the same market.
According to a written FIR filed by the victim’s son on 14th December, the accused not only used vulgar language but also inappropriately touched the victim and threatened her with a knife. Following the assault, B***** S***** was rushed to the District Hospital, Namchi, where doctors treated her injuries and advised further medical examinations, including NCCT and X-rays.
She initially reported the incident verbally to the police on the same evening, mentioning only that she was assaulted. However, she later disclosed the full extent of the assault to her family, prompting her son to file a formal complaint.
The accused fled the scene after the incident but was apprehended by beat personnel on 13th December in the Dambu Dara area. He was detained under Section 35 of the BNSS Act, 2023, for interrogation.
A case has been registered under various sections of the BNS Act, 2023, and the investigation is underway.
