Suspected Drug Peddler Arrested in Singtam with Brown Sugar
Singtam Police apprehended a suspected drug peddler in possession of brown sugar. The accused, identified as Choden Sherpa (33), a resident of Tadong, Gairee Gaon, Gangtok District, was intercepted near Bhanu Turning while traveling from Siliguri to Gangtok on a Scooty bearing registration number WB-74BV-1095 (NTORQ).

The operation, led by PI Sher Bahadur Manger, SHO of Singtam Police Station, was initiated following credible information that the suspect was involved in the sale of contraband substances in Singtam and its surrounding areas. At around 2:50 PM, the suspect’s vehicle was intercepted, and independent witnesses, Lakpa Tamang and Samjana Tamang, were secured to ensure transparency in the search process.The accused was briefed on the legal search procedure as per Section 50 of the NDPS Act, 1985, and opted to be searched in the presence of a Gazetted Officer.
PI Chomu Lachungpa was called to oversee the search, during which 43 small black pouches containing a brown-colored substance suspected to be brown sugar were found concealed in a pink polythene bag in the left pocket of the suspect’s black jacket. The total weight of the seized substance was 63.59 grams.A case has been registered under Singtam PS FIR under Sections 21(b)/22 of the NDPS Act, 1985. The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
