GREF Tipper Truck Met An Accident, Kills One and Leaves Two Injured In Chungthang , North Sikkim
A heartbreaking accident unfolded in Chungthang, North Sikkim, on Monday afternoon, leaving a community in shock. A GREF Tripper vehicle, driven by 36-year-old Santosh Tamang, veered off a cliff near Rabum around 2:30 PM, resulting in the death of a young girl and injuring two others.

The incident came to light when ASI Karma Chutim Lachenpa, who was on patrol in the area, was alerted by local villagers. Rushing to the scene, Lachenpa found the vehicle, bearing registration number 24E 74401, had tumbled about 50 feet down the cliff. The force of the crash caused the vehicle to slam into a small wooden house, where three people were inside at the time.
Among those affected were Mrs. Somit Lepcha and a 4-year-old boy, Nima Lama, both of whom sustained injuries. Tragically, 7-year-old Passang Doma Sherpa lost her life after being trapped under the wreckage. Despite efforts by villagers to rescue her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Santosh Tamang, has since been taken into custody. Authorities have registered a case against him under sections 281/125A/125B/106 BNS, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. The community remains shaken as they mourn the loss of a young life and hope for the recovery of the injured.
