: An interactive and awareness-building session on the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana was conducted at the premises of Rangpo Nagar Panchayat today. The programme was organised with the objective of informing local citizens about the benefits, procedures, and long-term impact of the government’s flagship solar energy scheme, which aims to provide free electricity to households through rooftop solar installations.
The session witnessed the participation of several key dignitaries and officials wherein Mrs Radha Pradhan, Vice President of the Municipal Council, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Mr Suren Tamang, Municipal Executive Officer (MEO), also extended his support and guidance. In addition, Councillors Mrs Sanju Manger and Mrs Larisna Tamang actively took part in the event, highlighting the importance of sustainable and clean energy initiatives at the grassroots level.
A detailed presentation was delivered by Additional Chief Engineer Power Department, Mr Ruplal Subba, who, along with representatives from SREDA (Sikkim Renewable Energy Development Agency), explained the technical, financial, and environmental aspects of the Surya Ghar Yojana. They emphasized how the scheme not only reduces the financial burden of electricity bills for households but also contributes significantly to the state’s commitment towards renewable energy and environmental conservation.

Furthermore, officials from various banks attended the programme to provide clarity on the financial facilitation and loan procedures available under the scheme. Their participation ensured that the public was able to interact directly with financial institutions and address their queries regarding subsidies, repayment options, and eligibility criteria.
