Tragic Landslide Claims Life of Panchayat President in West Sikkim
Gyalzing, West Sikkim 14- sept 2025 – A devastating landslide struck Sardung Lama Gaon in Gyalzing district, West Sikkim, yesterday, claiming the life of Panchayat President Rajen Gurung.
According to local authorities, heavy rainfall triggered the landslide, which caused severe damage in the area. Despite rescue efforts, Mr. Gurung could not be saved. His untimely demise has left the local community in shock and mourning, as he was widely respected for his leadership and dedication to public service.
Officials have urged residents in vulnerable zones to remain cautious as the region continues to face risks of further landslides due to ongoing rains. Relief and rehabilitation efforts are currently underway.
