Food Safety Inspection in Namchi: Prohibition Order Issued After Cooking Oil Fails Test

Namchi, September 17, 2025: Following a joint inspection conducted on September 15 at Yang Yang and surrounding areas of Namchi District, authorities have taken strict action after receiving a public complaint filed by the Food Safety Officer.

The inspection team consisted of the Food Safety Officer (FSO), Technical Officer, Assistant Chemist, staff from the Food Safety Cell, and the Food Safety on Wheels (FSW) unit. During the inspection, cooking oil used at one of the premises failed the Polarity/Rancidity test, indicating it was unsafe for use.

A case was officially registered by Dr. Shilpa Sunwar (Mukhia), Food Safety Officer, citing violation of Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 for selling food in unhygienic and unsanitary conditions, as well as operating without proper labelling.

Taking cognizance of the matter, Dr. S.N. Adhikari, Chief Medical Officer of Namchi and the Designated Officer under the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006, issued a Prohibition Order today. The order restricts the manufacturing and sale of sweets, tea, and other prepared food items in the affected premises until further notice.

Authorities have assured that further monitoring and strict enforcement will continue to safeguard public health in the district.
