BJP Sikkim Delegation Visits Landslide-Hit Tumin-Lingi, Seeks Urgent Restoration of Roads and Relief

GANGTOK, July 3

A high-level delegation of BJP Sikkim, led by State President D.R. Thapa, on Friday visited the landslide-affected areas of Kaw, Chowridara, Darakharka, Lingi and nearby villages under the Tumin-Lingi Constituency to assess the damage caused by the devastating natural calamity that struck on June 27.

During the visit, the delegation interacted with affected residents, local officials and displaced families to assess the ground situation and understand their immediate needs. According to the party, the massive landslide, reportedly triggered by a possible cloudburst, caused extensive destruction across the region.

The delegation observed that the entire Sapta Kanya Falls tourist site, including a cafeteria and tourism infrastructure developed under the Bharat Darshan Programme at an estimated cost of ₹13 crore, had been completely washed away. It also noted severe damage to the Kaw Khola Bridge, a vital link connecting the Lingi–Payong area, and called for its immediate restoration to resume connectivity and support relief efforts.

The delegation said Kaw Gaon, Chowridara and Darakharka remain cut off, affecting daily life and disrupting the livelihoods of farmers who depend on supplying milk to Sikkim Milk. At Darakharka, the team met 16 evacuated families currently sheltering at the local primary school and assured them of assistance with essential medicines, food and other necessities.

BJP leaders also urged the district administration to expedite road restoration and assured full cooperation in relief and rehabilitation efforts, reaffirming the party’s commitment to supporting all families affected by the disaster.
