Suicide Case Reported in Gyalsing District A suspected suicide was reported in Mangnam, Gyalsing District, on February 17, 2025, bringing the total to 19 such cases in Sikkim over the past 10 days. A resident returned home from a local ceremony to find his wife deceased near their home. Preliminary investigations found no signs of foul play. The couple had been married for over seven years and had three children. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, with rising concern over the increasing number of suicide cases in the state.

23-Year-Old Man Arrested in Connection with POCSO Case in Sombaria A 23-year-old man from Soreng District was arrested on the night of 16th February 2025 in connection with a POCSO (Protection of Children from Se*ual Offences) case. The arrest took place at the Toong Checkpost, Mangan District, with the support of the Station House Officer (SHO) from Chungthang Police Station. The accused has been charged under sections 5 and 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.

Students of Banaras Hindu Sangh pays candle-light tribute to Late Prakriti Lamsal Gorkha Bidhyarthi Sangh (GBS) of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) staged a strong protest today, demanding justice for Prakriti, a BTech student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), who has allegedly been a victim of racial discrimination. The protest, organized by the GBS, gathered students who raised their voices against the alleged mistreatment faced by Prakriti. The demonstrators called for immediate action against those responsible and stressed the need for creating a safe, discrimination-free environment for all students, regardless of their background.
