A urologist from Sikkim, Dr Tsering Doma Bhutia, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday after suffering a medical emergency while attending the international urology conference, USICON-2026, in Indore.

Dr Bhutia collapsed on Saturday afternoon while delivering a presentation during a technical session at the conference. Doctors and delegates present at the venue immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before rushing her to Life Care Hospital. She was later referred to Apollo Hospital for advanced treatment.
Medical investigations revealed that she had a pre-existing brain aneurysm — a weak or thin spot in a blood vessel in the brain that balloons with blood. In her case, the aneurysm ruptured suddenly, causing severe internal bleeding and immediate loss of consciousness, leaving her in a critical condition.
She was placed on ventilator support, and as her condition remained critical, plans were initially made to airlift her to Mumbai. However, her family later decided to shift her to Medanta Hospital in Indore for further treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Dr Bhutia succumbed to her condition on Wednesday. Confirming her demise, Medanta Hospital medical director Dr Sanjay Geed said her body is being sent to her hometown.
