Pakyong, March 03 : The final match of the 1st Inter-Department Cricket Tournament, organised by the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA), was played between the Commerce and Industries Department and the Rural Development Department at the Sikkim Cricket Ground, Rangpo, today. The match, which was originally scheduled to be played on March 1, had to be postponed due to rain.
The Rural Development Department clinched the victory by 7 wickets, emerging as the champions of the 1st Edition of the Inter-Department Cricket Tournament.
MLA Namthang Rateypani, Mr Sanjeet Kharel attended the tournament as the Chief Guest in the presence of Minister, Rural Development Department & Cooperation Department, Mr Arun Upreti.
Mr Binod Chettri of the Rural Development Department was named Player of the Final for his outstanding performance.
Likewise, the Player of the Tournament award was presented to Mr Pempa Tamang of the Commerce and Industries Department.
Mr Pranil Pradhan of Rural Development Department secured the Highest Wicket-Taker award, while Mr Pempa Tamang from Commerce and Industries Department finished as the Highest Scorer of the tournament.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, wherein the winners and runners-up were honoured for their performance.
The winning team of the tournament was awarded a cash prize of ₹10 lakh, while the runners-up received a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, sponsored by the State Bank of Sikkim (SBS).
The Inter-Department Cricket Tournament witnessed the participation of 28 government departments and public sector undertakings (PSUs), with the objective of fostering teamwork and sportsmanship among government employees while further promoting a strong sporting culture in the state.
