Renowned litterateur C. P. Sharma, popularly known by his literary name Prakash Bhattarai, from Soreng district of Sikkim has been named for the Nepali Sahitya Akademi Award in recognition of his contribution to Nepali literature.

Bhattarai is known for several literary works, including “Nepali Parampaarik Sanskriti ra Sabhyatako Dhukuti,” which highlights the richness of Nepali language, culture and tradition. Through his writings, he has played a significant role in preserving and promoting Nepali heritage.
Apart from literature, Bhattarai has also made notable contributions in the field of education. He served as a PGT Nepali teacher and later as the Principal of Buriakhop Senior Secondary School until 2009.
Currently, he is serving as the Vice Chairman of the Institute for Transforming Sikkim (ITS). A resident of Timburbong in Soreng district, his selection for the prestigious award has brought pride to the people of the district as well as the entire state.
