Inspection Held to Address Public Concerns on Newly Constructed PMGSY Road at Tokchi

Pakyong, March 14 : Minister for Rural Development Department (RDD), Cooperation Department and Panchayati Raj, Mr Arun Kumar Upreti, in the presence of MLA-cum-Advisor for Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Mrs Pamin Lepcha, conducted an inspection following a complaint raised by the local public regarding the newly constructed PMGSY road at Tanki Lakha Tokchi, Pakyong today.

The inspection also had the presence of Panchayat President; Ward Panchayat; Chief Engineer, Rural Development Department, North East, Mr Ringzing Dorjee Gyalsten; SE PMGSY, North East, Mr Karma Gyurmee Bhutia; SDM (HQ), Mr Thendup Lepcha; DE PMGSY, Mr Nima Tashi Bhutia; BDO Pakyong, Mr Sangay Tamang along with officials from various line departments.

The inspection commenced with a brief assessment of the damaged stretch, during which Minister, Mr Arun Kumar Upreti, along with MLA-cum-Advisor, Mrs Pamin Lepcha inspected the damaged area.

Following the inspection, Mr Arun Kumar Upreti expressed his dissatisfaction with the quality of work carried out on the stretch. He then enquired about the technical specifications of the road and interacted with the local public on the issue.

In addition, he directed the concerned department to present a detailed report on the issue and urged everyone to work collectively and in coordination for the overall development of the region, while assuring necessary support to address the matter.

As informed by the Engineering Cell of Rural Development Department (RDD), out of the total 5.4 km road length, 1.7 km of length for carpeting has been achieved at the site so far. Approximately 10 metres of length i.e. from RD 3600 m to 3610 m road surface were found defective and it was reported that the damage occurred due to unforeseen rainfall which had resulted in drop in temperature at time of rolling on laid premix carpeting.

It is to be mentioned the field engineer had taken cognisance and had already directed the contractor to re-lay the defected portion and as a measure of action the damaged portion will be rectified as per guidelines and engineering specifications.

Additionally, the remaining carpeted stretch was also inspected by the concerned officials along with the public and was found satisfactory and in compliance with PMGSY norms and guidelines.

The inspection team also informed that officials from Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department, District Administrative Centre Pakyong will be deployed at the site until the completion of the required works, with emphasis on timely reporting of progress and the actions being undertaken to resolve the issue.
